Most 19 years olds find themselves entering the real world, looking for jobs, finding a path in life, and figuring out what it is they want for the future. Take that, and throw in world wide concert tours, the biggest of music festivals, a debut EP, and droves of fans and you’ve got the life of Dubstep artist Dismantle. The Brighton born DJ/producer, Will Knighton, has not only begun creating his own music empire called Gangoon Dubz, but is also signed to Digital Soundboy, a top electronic music label. While his talents have brought him to musical noeriety, his attitude about music, and humble philosophies about life keep him surrounded by the biggest names in the business and huge crowds of fans. Recently released, his new EP, TheWarp, is proof of the energy, creativity, and likability Dismantle andhis music posses.
Knighton began making music in his childhood bedroom. He and his friend, “Hizzle Guy” got together and mixed Drum and Bass, quickly moving on to producing their own music. Soon after, he ventured into other genres. “After a year Istarted to make Dubstep and he introduced me to a few people who had just setup Gangoon Dubz. I then joined, and from there we started to get small bookings locally. We started making a lot more music and pushing the name”. The name certainly spread, and soon they released music and were getting plays from multitudes of DJs.
Minimix for Annie Mac on BBC Radio 1 (Tracklist in description) by Dismantle
His recent mini mix for Annie Mac stems straight from the music he was influenced by most in his childhood: “I took music which I liked to listen to when I was younger to try and get a message across to people that I’m very open minded about music. I probably won’t play that sort of stuff out when I DJ but I’ve been thinking recently I would liketo try it out”. It is his always changing and always experimenting mindset that makes Dismantle so special. His acceptability and openness encourages others to want to work with him and really benefits his music in that it keeps itinteresting. Though he is mostly known for Dubstep, house has been his biggest influence as of late, “I’m a huge House fan, all kinds. I still like Dubstepand I play it out but i found half step stuff hard to make. I wasn’t inspiredby it any more. I took what I like to listen to, made some, and sped it up to140. My sound is always changing”.
Will’s new musical ventures have attracted major artists to his music. And though he is constantly in contact with big names, his attitude remains appreciative and down to earth. “Having Diplo playing my music andpraising my work is such a big achievement for me. His music has been a huge influence and I think some people forget that he was one of the first to start making the sort of stuff I’m in to. I remember when I first heard "Pon Di Floor" at a festival. I went crazy!I had never heard music like that before and I said to myself, ‘I’ve got tomake a track like that!’” Surely, his heart and soul are in it, and can be felt in the music he puts out.

Recently Dismantle has taken his talentsto Dubstep artist Caspa, working on new sounds and tracks. His hope is to getin the studio with Skream sometimes soon, and possibly “Prodigy or the vocalist India”. This summer he sill bringhis sounds to all the festivals he is planning to attend, including Bestival, Outlook, Secret Garden Party, and many more. For the crowds attending this summer, “They can expect some tempo changes definitely. I’m starting to play alot more house and I think summer is a good time to show people that I don’t just like to DJ one genre. I like to switch it up and challenge myself. It’s what makes DJing fun”.
Fun is definitely part of Dismantle’s brand new The Warp E.P., which at very first listen displays his diverse abilities as a producer. It is a musical epic hard to categorize, offering elements of so many types of music. The mix of Garage, Dubstep, and House creates for an album that makes listeners dance non-stop. The EP upholds his reputation as a creative producer, innovator, and by no means just a DJ.
