GRAMATIK GETS FREE New Album #digitalfreedom Released On Pretty Lights Music
For the funny, outgoing musician, and part time comedian that is Gramatik, freedom is the optimal word for his brand new EP, #digitalfreedom. The funky dubstep sounds that range in tempo and make quick, yet perfect transitions, move freely from track to track, producing tunes that make you want to move your feet, jam with friends, and replay the album over and over. Basing his musicianship on the belief of free filesharing, it is only too obvious that he would join Pretty Lights music, which gives away all their music for free, and release an album that takes digital freedom to a whole new level of meaning. In his own words he is, “freeing musicby making music free”, and boy are we glad to accept and listen! From an early age, Gramatik has been influenced by American soul, jazz, blues, and funk. By age 13 the Slovenian teen started producing his own beats which spread to America quickly with his encouragement of file sharing. With over 100,000 tracks sold on Beatport.com, it is obvious his previous releases, Beatz and Pieces Vol. 1, NoShortcuts, and Street Bangerz have been very well received. The hype on his music and desire to hear it by fans has brought him to festivals across theU.S., performing along side the well-known Pretty Lights at major events like Red Rocks.
#digitalfreedom defies the meaning of funk, mixing and mashing melodies, electronic beats and bass, and incorporatingguitar riffs and trumpet instrumentals. The track “Fist Up” takes listeners backto 70s funk music and soul-train. “Solidified” is a tune that gets real dirty in the bass, offering a rap vocalist that adds to its already highly creative construction and turns up the track’s headbanging quality to super high levels. “23Flavors” offers just as many transitions and sounds as his upbeat tracks, even in its slower tempo, the track takes off three quarters of the way through the song in to a fast pace rager that quickly comes back down as soulful vocals stream through the music. And finally, it is in the track “Talkbox Intended” that Gramatik not only exemplifies his experimentation and creativity in the funky, but the lyrics that express what he offers us freely as Dubstep funk.
