MASSIVE Hits Washington DCLargest Mid-Atlantic Fest Ever!
words: J. Dubin Photos: A. Fedoroff HEAD TO OUR FLICKR TO SEE THE ENTIRE PHOTO GALLERYYou can kick the bass but you can’t kill the beat. Steez Promo brought the biggest in Bass and the best in show to Fall Massive 2011, with sounds so big the police arrived for noise complaints. But the lower volume didn’t lower the energy as thousands danced, hooped, and raved to top EDM artists from around the world. Just two days after Thanksgiving, Diplo, Moby, Infected Mushrooms, Bare, Plan B, Zeds Dead, Dirty Phonics, Lucky Date and 30 more acts took over the huge six heated interconnected tents put up special for Massive in parking lot 8 of RFK stadium in Washington DC. From 4 PM until 2 AM fans dressed in neon, feathers, glow sticks, jumpsuits and a whole lot of glitter moved from tent to tent to catch site of their favorite artists and jam along with their friends or just some fellow ragers.
Moby From Dubstep, to Electro, a little Drum and Bass, and a lot of House, Steez really brought in the top of the crop in the business. In the longest set of the night, Skream and Benga brought true London Dubstep origins over to the U.S. with heavy, heavy tracks. With a hype man to rap and pump up the crowd between breaks, the two hours went fast, hard and fun. This only later to be followed by Excision who dropped some old and some new tracks off his most recent album. Bare threw down some dirty Dubstep in the Dub Nation tent at 7 PM while the girls of Dystruction danced in platforms high enough to look out over the entire audience. In another tent Mord Fustang starts his 7:20 set time with the newly released “Big Bad Wolf”. And speaking of Duck Sauce, one half of the group, Armand Van Helden, was the surprise act of the night. He really gave a unique and unforgettable performance, unlike any set heard from him before, playing huge house sounds and mixing up crazy beats with well-known tracks like “Barbara Streisand”. And straight form Maryland’s own U Street Music Hall came Tittsworth, whose Bmore club sounds gave a really fun spin to the other heavy performances of the night. The stage filled with home friends (including the HipsterOverkill Gorilla) and photographers made his performance seem really homey.

The new venue was more than Steez event usuals could have hoped for and new attendees could have imagined. LED lights shot to every inch of the smoke filled tents as kandi covered kids sucked on pacifiers, grinded on security guards, and jumped, jumped, and jumped some more. Fall Massive was certainly massive, in sound, crowds, artists and all.
