What do a hot hit of ecstasy, a hot air balloon ride and a phonograph have in common? Absolutely nothing, but when combined together they have the poetical chemistry to create one hell-of-an unforgettable party. This was what the final September Control, Avalon’s weekly Friday Electro party, felt like. Alex Metric, Drop the Lime and Huoratron, although an unlikely mix, pumped through Avalon’s impeccable sound system and made for an exhilarating show. Each set’s change of pace kept the all night, 18 and up aged crowed raging without a single lull.

Alex Metric kick-started the show spinning his glittery, disco-tinged, Electro pop remixes. One hi-light of the set was when Metric ignited the crowd into full feet stomping-fist-pumping swing using guitars from Daft Punk's “Aerodynamic” over the already massive build up to “Open Your Eyes”, his recent hit co-produced with Swedish House Mafia’s Steve Angelo. This track is an epic eruption of synth sounds and hyperactive dance beats, a perfect way to get the night started right.
And then there was Drop the Lime. From the Brooklyn based Trouble & Bass Crew, Drop the Lime, AKA DJ, singer, producer, virtuoso, Lucca Venezia, put on a performance that was like no other. A combination of Dance music synched with 1950’s Rockabilly. To the surprise of fans who are accustomed to seeing Drop the Lime do a strictly electronic DJ set, Venezia took the stage by storm playing a full show singing with guitar in hand. Accompanied by a drummer and two Betty Paige-esque backup singers he kicked-off the set performing his UK hit “Hot As Hell”. With a shiny, perfect pomp and chrome microphone, Drop the Lime delivered a songs that are best served live. A completely innovative and unique sound with a vintage feel that is truly of its own time.
Huoratron
Closing the night was Finish DJ Huoratron. This guy is a beast with claws out, literally. Spinning dark bass-heavy, nightmarish tracks like “Corporate Occult” and throwing out the monster-like gestures that are sure to become his trademark. He truly connects with the crowed. Like a dark lord summoning his minions Huoratron led the audience, perhaps new recruits into the “Cult of Huoratron”, dancing well into the first day of October.
This show kept us on our toes and excited about what eclectic line-ups Control at Avalon has in store.
