Massive Attack ft. Hope Sandoval "Paradise Circus" (Gui Boratto Remix)
Possibly the most favorite song in the Hipster Overkill office last year, Massive Attack flipped an already amazing song by enlisting Brazilian Tech House producer Gui Boratto to make an even more stellar version. The track has been heard primarily in a Lincoln car commercial. You'll be happy to know that the classic Trip Hop duo has donated all money earned from the ad to SaveOurGulf.org in an effort to clean the water polluted by the BP oil spill.
Teddybears ft. Mad Cobra "Cobrastyle"
"It's the bomb diggy bomb"... You know this song. You don't know who it's by or what it's called, but you know it. After hearing this in numerous TV shows, movies, and advertisements I finally dug into cyberspace to identify this ubiquitous tune. Teddybears are a Swedish band who on their 4th album in 2005 teamed up with Dancehall legend Mad Cobra and dropped this song and have been collecting royalty checks ever since. It's been heard on Grey's Anatomy, Chuck, and in Fifa 06 video game to name a few things.
Groove Armada "I Won't Kneel" (White Light)
If I were pitching an ad idea to Lipton 100% Natural Ice Tea i would probably pick an earthy acoustic tune as the back drop. This is why I haven't landed a job in advertising. The latest Lipton ad has British Electronic duo Groove Armada providing the soundscape with their Post-Punk style White Light mix of "I Won't Kneel". Upon seeing the ad I could have cared less about ice tea, I just wanted the song! If you felt the same, here it is.
MC Chris "Hoodie Ninja"
Stupid, yes. Infectious, most definitely! The new bizarre Honda Civic ads feature one about a monster girl, one about a zombie and the one about a ninja girl featuring this tune by MC Chris. If you recognize the voice, you probably watch Aqua Teen Hunger Force. Yes, MC Chris is also MC Pee Pants on the Adult Swim program. He has also provided voice work for Sealab 2021, The Brak Show, and Space Ghost: Coast To Coast.
Carmen Mcrae "Just A Little Loving" (GB Remix)
How do you get people to stop buying those damn comfortable memory foam mattresses? By telling people that sex is SO much better on springs. That's what Sealy is doing and they've used this electronic remix of vocalist Carmen Mcrae's jazz classic.
Kelley Stoltz "Birdies Singing"
First time I saw one of the new ads in Regency Bank campaign I wasn't paying attention but when it came to a close and I heard a singer warbly voice chant "laaaa la la la la" I almost fell over laughing. That voice belongs to Kelley Stoltz, an indie singer song writer who's been releasing music since 1999 and has been signed to the legendary Seattle label Sub Pop since 2005. His 2006 album Below The Branches featured "Birdies Singing" and 5 years later, the broader public is discovering it thanks to the Regency ads.
