Welcome to our new segment, COMMERCIAL CUTS, where we will attempt to put a name and a face to the great music that can pop up TV ads these days.

I am going to go out on a limb and say that the true musical tastemaker, the true hipsters of today are ad men.  It doesn't hurt that Mad Men is one of the hottest things on TV but in 2000's commercials have been a stronger source of up and coming music than radio and magazines combined.  Need proof.  Justice (Cadillac), M.I.A. (Honda), Santogold (Bud Beer), Phoenix (Cadillac again), Black Keys (Subaru), Kid Cudi/Steve Aoki (Vitamin Water).... the list goes on and on.  If for some reason you have been baffled by google and it's function on the internet, don't worry, we have done our research to tell you who sings the song in the ad where the guy is doing that thing in the car that you like.

THE ASTEROIDS GALAXY TOUR "The Golden Age"
Heineken has been blasting their latest ad campaign hard and it features Danish Funk band The Asteroids Galaxy Tour up front and center.  Currently their combined youtube views for this song is well over 8 million!  You can find the song on their album Fruit.  We have a soft spot for this group because we interviewed them after they first hit the states in an itunes commercial a couple years back.  We saw promise then and still see it now.

Check out our interview from 2009 here [Asteroids Galaxy Tour Interview]

ALOE BLACC "I NEED A DOLLAR"
Underground Soulster Aloe Blacc has been buzzed about for years but it's not until recently that he's broke into homes across America.  Cell phone provider Boost Mobile's new ad about a guy with about 100 jobs so he can pay his monthly bill features the soulful and gritty "I Need A Dollar" as the narrative.  As soon as I saw it I needed a dollar for iTunes.  The track was released through California based Stones Throw Records who now have over 10 million views of this video on youtube thanks to some ad execs with good taste.

BIBIO "Lover's Carvings"
British Electro-Folk artist, Bibio, made noise (and a fat publishing check) when Amazon decided to use his song "Lover's Carvings" to push the latest vesion of their electronic book tablet, Kindle.
