LMFAO: From Hollywood To Miami! - D. Painter When the H.O. crew went to Miami for WMC we were instantly greeted by the cities anthem, "I'm In Miami Bitch". My first thought was, "Electro on commercial radio?!?!?!", and quickly began to thinking that a move might be in order because I might be living in the wrong city. The track became ubiquitous throughout the week and more and more we needed to find out just who this local group must be. It turns out that they aren't even from Florida, but, they sure owned the place during the most important week for Electronic music in the world. Hollywood, CA based production/rap duo LMFAO just maybe the group to entice the masses to the emerging electro scene. Sky Blu & Redfoo have all the sonic elements to be considered a real underground Electro group but some may disagree due to their image: cartoonishly tight & bright clothing, oversized glasses, afros, etc (if Shwayze was an indicator, Cali has a different breed of hipster...and let's not forget that their name is LMFAO). Are they part of the culture or using it? The answer remains to be seen but the truth is that if Kid Cudi & Crookers broke the commercial barrier, LMFAO are holding the door open for everyone else to follow. This can be controversial when sub-cultural elitists feel that the music they love should remain unfound by the broader audience. But don't MSTRKRFT deserve to sell 1 million copies of their new CD? If so, it maybe due to groups like LMFAO converting the often skiddish sheep of the mainstream. You be the judge...
